Personally, I think a hybrid of the two would still work if done right.
A portal with a slide screen that doubles as a mobile phone capable of playing any existing Xbox 360 game I think would do really well. Not only that but if they Xbox 360 and it were a 1:1, it'd help keep development on the Xbox 360 going. Then about mid-life for Xbox 8 come out with a version of it compatible with Xbox 8.
