Fanboys are usually kids who haven't grown up yet, have limited resources, and an ego at stake based on what system they pick for their gaming. Because of this, they end up developing loyalty to a certain brand, which goes religious in nature, so it is irrational and filted around personal biases. This religious impulse shows up in politics and sports also.
