I wouldn't say your classification of fanboy applies to all fanboys. I think they deserve their own sub-categories being as there are many Sony fans here who do hype up every Sony release; however, they are still generally respectful to other members of the community.

As for myself, Sony is my console of choice even though I have no particular love for them, rather, I simply hate the other options. I hate MS, Apple, and Nintendo with a passion though I usually keep those opinions to myself because it's not worth the bother to explain myself.

I'm just throwing that out there to identify other reasons for user actions besides labeling them a fanboy. It could be that they genuinely perceive that company's actions as contrary to the direction they wish gaming to proceed or they feel those actions are harmful to the industry as a whole. In which case those sentiments are actually better off expressed even though they may be contrary to popular opinion.

Also, despite how it may seem to the average gamer with a wide range of tastes, the success of a company can largely affect one's enjoyment of gaming. I primarily play JRPG's, which are sorely lacking this generation. I think that the primary reason for this is 360's success in N. America. This divided the market and destroyed a niche market, making most JRPG's feasible only for Japan. This was compounded by MS's early efforts to solidify a market in Japan by acquiring exlusive deals on JRPG's from Square and Namco Bandai. All their efforts failed to improve sales; however, they managed to hinder what was already a market in decline. MS also pushed multiplayer content heavily with Xbox live. This has meant much less of a focus on single player games.

There are multiple manners in which I believe MS's success has had an effect on my enjoyment of this generation but I will leave it at that considering this post is already longwinded and most will just shrug them off as irrational complaints under the notion that a company can't influence the market's desires.
