Rareware was more than enough for me to love my N64 but the 3rd party lineup on the console was pretty terrible. |
I suppose we are at an impasse, since you do not recognize any of the third party gems I listed as good games.
I will say this: the N64 library would be lackluster indeed if the contributions from Nintendo and Rare did not exist. But they DO exist, and it is they that push N64 over the top. If someone doesn't enjoy Nintendo franchises, then maybe video games aren't the right medium for that person.
Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda are two of the founding fathers of modern video gaming; almost all modern games owe something to them. Games like Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Super Mario 64, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are consistently named to top 10 lists, by fans and by critics. If you do not care for platform and action-adventure games (which includes Kirby, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong), you have RPGs (Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, Pokemon), sports (Wii Sports, Punch-Out!!), life simulation (Animal Crossing), real-time strategy (Pikmin), racing (Mario Kart), fighting (Super Smash Bros.), shooter (Star Fox, Kid Icarus), puzzle (Brain Age, Dr. Mario), party game (Mario Party, Nintendo Land, WarioWare).
