Well I ended up going for the digital download PC/Mac/Linux version (over the 360 version.) That way I can play it on either my desktop (pc) or on my macbook air.
I also found somebody selling a new copy of the reprint edition for Genesis/Mega Drive, which is the version I'd like to play, on an auction site here in Japan for a starting price that's not too unreasonable. I put in a bid, so I'll have to wait a few days to see if I win it. The HD version is also in case I don't win it, so I can still play the game.
