Proprietary memory cards are used to counteract piracy. If you recall, the piracy on the psp was inexcuseable.

Shirley, you don't believe that excuse.

They used a generic memory card for the psp and look how that turned out. The same happened with the wii and will happen for the Wii U. Clearly this was a problem so they fixed it with the Vita. I fail to see from Sony's perspective how this was a bad move. They are just protecting their product.

The effects of piracy has been discussed to death so it's not going to change your opinion even if it's discussed again.

You say the new memory is to combat piracy. Let's assume that for now.

Are you suggesting that, keeping the price high is "protecting their product?"

No not at all, the company is not a charity they are in the business to make a profit. Selling these memory cards will help counteract the loss they make on the vita all the while protecting the companies assets. I am not sure if Sony is selling the device at a loss anymore either so we may see a price cut on the memory  cards in the coming months.
