My logic.  Windows Phone 8, Windows 8, and the next Xbox will be a Generation 8 console.  Xbox 8 seems to be more logical than Xbox 720 and fewer characters to type than "Next Xbox".

I was actually hoping that would be the case.  Hopefully, it catches on.

I think the problem will come in a few years when we have the Xbox 8, the Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9....

But there are rumours that M$ are going to be doing some odd things (yearly Windows and other weird stuff), but for now the name does make more sense, I am not sure anyone ever actually thought that they were going to call it the 720

I agree, I don't think Microsoft had any intentions to as well as anyone seriously thinking they would.  Other people came up with Xbox 8 because of the tie to Windows 8, but with the relationship to the generation, Xbox 8 works.
