How much revenue does a typical Halo game make and does it cover marketing costs?

It's a multi billion dollar franchise so of course it is profitable. As far as I'm aware each halo has made profits on launch day. They advertise it for a reason. Why is because they know how much money they make off of it. If they didn't they wouldn't have made Halo 4
