Unlike Sony's press release that specifically states North America Microsofts PR states "in the U.S. alone". Dependant on what Sony include as North America it could mean everything North of Panama (inc the Caribbean) to just Greenland or any combination of nations in between.

The 750k to 800k gap is because the Microsoft's PR is just six days (from Sunday to Friday)... so VGC estimated more 50k for the Saturday to fill the full week.
Sony and Nintendo data are seven days (Sunday to Saturday)... the full week already.
