if it is a when not if let me ask you this...

do you have a 3DS, wiiU? are you planning to buy a ps4 or xbox 720 early in it's lifecycle?

depending on how you answer those i'll change my recommendation based on this ... spread out the love. if you just bought or plan to buy early the wiiU/ps4/xbox720 then i'd go for a vita now. if those purchases are to be delayed then maybe waiting for the inevitable price drop isn't such a bad idea. personally, opening a new console is a joyous experience so don't buy two at once -- it dulls the experience.

Yeah I own both the 3DS and WiiU and I'll most likely be buying the 720/PS4 early on if not at launch.  The difference is I trust Nintendo with both home consoles and handheld consoles, I trust microsoft with home consoles, and I trust Sony with home consoles as well.  In my honest opinion I havent been let down with any of the consoles this generation besides the PSP.  I got that thing I think in 2005 and I've only bought 1 game since then which was Metal gear Solid Peace Walker.  I just don't have confidence yet that the Vita will deliver games I like yet.

well then by my aforementioned logic ... as you must have just bought a wiiU i'd hold out until at least mid next year.  no sense getting two toys back to back.  i think a price cut for vita was pretty much confirmed so by june-ish next year you can probably get vita for probably ~$50 cheaper and with a better library.

but i will say this...vita is a really good console so far.  most of its games aren't the big system sellers you'll find on other systems but LBP is probably the most fun i've had gaming in years.  tarsier did such an amazing job with this one.  escape plan, gravity rush, uncharted, retro city, wipeout, stardust, rayman, mutant blobs, sound shapes, PSAS (i'm just listing my games btw :P) are all really good.

i think of my vita much the same as i imagine a lot of nintendo fans will think of their gamepad.  you get a full console quality experience but you can just chill on the couch while the wife/gf/whatever whats a show.  even better, i was able to keep on playing at the in-laws house over thanksgiving.  i've always had a sigma about handhelds being inferior before.  psp games (from what i downloaded for vita) were all pretty bad.  the lack of the second analog made a lot of games control wonkey.  vita -- just by including that second analog -- makes everything translate to handheld perfectly with no concessions and it is really, really satisfying.  the touch screen open up new kinds of gameplay (for sony franchises) and the rear touch screen ... well to date only escape plan uses it well imo but tearaway looks like a fantastic use as well.  vita is just really versitle and satisfying.

bottom: i highly recommend the system but i dunno, you might just be better off waiting a bit.
