If anyone gets a headstart it will be Microsoft.

Still, hopefully when Sony launches in 2014 they'll have had time to prepare a good line-up...Uncharted, Killzone, etc.

Based on what? Just because Xbox 360 had a year headstart on PS3?

This is the latest rumor on the next Xbox http://semiaccurate.com/2012/09/04/microsoft-xbox-next-delay-rumors-abound/

"The chip, which is still referred to as ‘Oban’, is being run through multiple fabs in very high quantities, too high by more than an order of magnitude to simply be for dev kits. Yields on the chip are said to be something between painfully low, Nvidia Fermi painfully low, and worse than that. Given the sheer number of wafers Microsoft contracted for, this seems to be both an anticipated problem, and one they have plans to work through. That said, SemiAccurate’s sources are still reporting that there is much work to be done, yields are not even up to “horrid” yet."

This was only 2 months ago...
Now lets look at where the PS4 is at shall we?
As of this earlier this month...http://www.vg247.com/2012/11/01/ps4_details_playstation_4/

"Multiple sources have confirmed to VG247 today that a new version of the Orbis kit is now shipping to developers, and that it’s housed in a normal PC case.

There are to be four versions of the dev kit, we were told. A previous version was essentially just a graphics card. The version shipping now is a “modified PC,” and the third version, appearing in January, will be close to final spec. A final version will be delivered to developers “next summer”."

So unless Microsoft is really good at keeping secrets.....PS4 seems to be further in development.

Eh ... what?  Doesn't really sound either of them is ready for a 2013 launch by those rumors, but it also doesn't really paint any picture of one being further along at all.  That being said, doesn't the Xbox RUMOR make it seem as if an order has been placed for actual device chips and not dev kits?  And wouldn't that imply that they are hopeful to be gearing up for production?
