They don't need td wait years to do that. A $400 console sold at a ~50 loss could easily be much more powerful than a Wii U.
Keep in mind that the Wii U is nearly sold at a profit, Nintendo only needs for you to buy 1 retail game for your Wii U investment to become profitable.
