I think most of you are laboring under the delusion that Disney is just what its name is synonymous with. Namely that it is only about children's entertainment. Well that is hardly true, and it hasn't been true for decades. Disney has big name studios that produce movies for mature audiences. You are just assuming that they are going to release the new film under the Disney brand rather then say the Touchstone brand. Oh is that a brand that is synonymous with crap, or is it a brand associated with a lot of good movies. Perhaps movies you have really enjoyed. Do tell me is their current movie Lincoln crap, or have they treated the material with crass disregard?

Seriously enough is enough. Disney does have a quality pedigree, and they don't treat their core products badly. Star Wars isn't a cartoon, and they probably won't treat it like it is. Unlike a certain gentlemen who seems to have been obsessed with selling toys through his last few films. I suspect that Disney will want to redress the criticisms leveled at the last three films, and refocus the franchise on real story telling.

I don't see any reason why Disney is going to do any less with this apex franchise then what Paramount did with theirs. The fact that this movie is probably going to be made by a committee is probably a very good sign. What hurt the prequels is that Lucas was actually involved. These guys are going to be more interested in making a far superior product. Then they will be in finding another way to cut in another unnecessary scene to sell yet another toy.

I am actually pretty excited about the move. It means we will get more movies, but it also means that there will actually be a chance that those movies might actually revolve around having real stories. Rather then a bunch of fluff. Which Lucas called whimsy, but was actually a transparent cash grab. As a fan I don't like the idea of letting the series end on such a bad note.

I'm excited too :) Especially after reading Kasdan is signed on to write at least one of the movies. Kasdan and the late Irvin Kershner were the two best things to happen to Star Wars.
