Pretty much just to survive and to complete the objective given to you.
The plot of ZombiU, in the words of Shrager, is “a combination of apocalyptic fiction and zombie fiction and a little bit of historical fiction.” The story revolves heavily around actual historical figure John Dee. John Dee served under Queen Elizabeth I, and is considered by many to be Britain’s first great spy. The character of James Bond was partially modeled after him, in that he spied for the Queen and used the code “007″ to identify himself in his messages. Dee also dabbled in various scientific and spiritual arts, and towards the end of his life became obsessed with the idea of talking to angels.
ZombiU expands on the mythos of John Dee, making him out to be England’s version of Nostradamus. In the backstory of ZombiU it is said that John Dee predicted the Great Plague of London which occurred in 1665 and wiped out about 20% of London’s population. The story explains that Dee predicted a return of the plague in the year 2012 and that, like the Great Fire which followed the plague of 1665, the second coming of the plague would end in fire with a new world born from the ashes.
