Lots of good points in the OP. Not a big fan of #5 on the list, but it IS possible to play PC games of yesteryear legally on sites like Steam, GameTap, and GOG.com. Honestly, this is mostly what I do, since my computer isn't exactly high-powered. But there are so many great classic PC games to play that I hardly need to chip away at the new ones.
I am and always will be a console person, but it's hard to argue with PC gaming being pretty great, especially if you can afford a great rig. I also agree with cusman about the PC being less than ideal for certain genres. For shooters, RPGs, and RTS games, it's great. For others, not so much.
