Just like the iPad 4 came a year after iPad 3 right? It seems pretty clear to me that Apple are changing up their schedule.

Apple is not going to release a new phone less than six months into a product cycle. There is absolutely no reason to do it. The iPad was an aberration and, in all likelihood, was done to get all their products in a row for the holiday season, which is far and away their biggest quarter. The iPad 3 update was a "mini-update" and Apple probably wanted to get its launch away from its Q2 earning cycle and into the competitive holiday cycle.

If Apple is going to short-cycle any product they have on the shelves, it will be the iPad Mini. That thing is woefully outdated and underpowered for its price point.
