Sony do have a lot to gain but it really depends on how forward thinking they can be. Part of the reason Microsoft have done so well this gen is because they pushed online early and had a very good infrastructure in place. We can see with the Wii why Ninetndo did so well. Sony ended up playing catch up in both areas whilst Blu-Ray and Cell didn't really give them the edge they hoped for. Unfortunately, I don't see much forward thinking in Vita, they seem to be clinging to old ideas instead of truly competing with tablets and mobiles.

It's not all negative though as I think the Gaikai aquisition is going to play a big part of their strategy next gen. Maybe not immediately but a couple of years in it should start taking off, especially if they can spread it to a wide range of devices.

It is really the fault of blu-ray and the cell being so expensive originally that got sony in this position. I do think Yoshida overseeing things more is a step in the right direction because he is a lot more realistic then Kutaragi was. Sony are in the worst position by potentially being last to market again. But that can also give them an advantage as they learn what microsoft's strategy is going forward. They also have more expirience and have had two sluggish launches to learn from.
