No way it will be able to do 4k ...

Keep in mind that consoles are always weaker than pc... They are like low-mid range pc's... And if nowwadays even high end pc's can't display 4k resolution properly, how will a console do that?!

Another question: do we really need 4k resolution? Doesn't it still need time for us to fully experience fullHD? Before 2005 we were fine with regular tv's..and that over 50 years...so don't come along and pretend that its time to move forward ...its not!
Even now, at the end of 2012, not everybody has HD capable tv's...but besides that:

I don't see any benefits for consoles with 4k over 'regualr consoles with 'just' HD...they better bring something innovativ to the table...for higher resolution just use a damn pc

And what better way then to experience fullHD (1080p) on a 4K screen

Upscaling DVD to 1080p had people claiming it looked almost as good as blu-ray. So blu-ray upscaled to 4K should look pretty damn good too.

Before 2005 plenty of people were not fine with regular tvs. However large size projection screens looked like crap and CRT tvs weighed a ton. There just wasn't an affordable alternative to bulky projecters with line doublers and Muse hi-vision Laserdisc.
Now we have the tech and computing power to move forward.

Consoles are multimedia devices nowadays that are supposed to last for 7 to 10 years. Why not be prepared for 4K so you can display images, video and internet browser when the tvs become affordable. And maybe some 4K arcade games to get people excited for the next round of consoles in 2020-2022.
