This will be the most likely outcome.

Alternatively if Sony can release a system at a "reasonable price" in comparission to that $599 PS3 that sells at a profit, they shoudl be able to get a decent result with a $400 machine.

 

Alternatively they could try to extend the life of the PS3 and skip the next generation and get WiiU ports. But this may be risky as it will only help the xbox brand to grow.
