#40 - Ape Escape (PS1)
As guessed by no-one! So yeah, I thought my clue was apt, but no-one seemed to see it. The first mandatory dual-analogue control for a game, at least as far as I'm aware of. And it was glorious. Hilarious monkeys; enjoyable platforming; interesting environments; a silly but amusing plot and a whole host of other things just made Ape Escape an absolute treat. Plus, as I mentioned, the way the controls were mapped felt like a real innovation, however small, at the time. Camera control suffered for it but it was well worth it.
Clue for my #39 - Arguably the most obscure game on my list. Based on a TV show. Never released in North America. Set in a hotel. Other guests included a lizard nurse with a giant syringe, a dog with an axe in his head and a cat with his eyes stitched up. Fucked up but absolutely amazing.
