Their gaming division is one of the few divisions that makes them money.
They only have to release the console without a loss or at a very small one (see Nintendo launching WiiU at a loss but making money when sold with a game).
@o_O.Q : BenVTrigger could explain it better, but just by launching new consoles, the whole market would benefit from it. It's stupid, but people want new things even if they aren't much better than the ones they already have. Case in point: Apple devices. They aren't groundbreaking, usually being just minor improvements, yet people buy them.
