I highly recommend playing all three Smash Bros. games, think-man. The first is the weakest, but still a good time. The second one is a huge improvement, and plays great. I've probably logged 400 hours on it. And Brawl is the all-around best package because of a very nice single-player campaign. But if you want the most balanced game, go with Melee.

In Super Smash melee I loved it because in single player you get to collect over what 150 trophies? and gives you a background history of each item. I collected all of them. Melee was perfect for single player experience and multiplayer with friends.

Couldn't agree more. I don't know if there has ever been such a huge leap between the first and second game in a series. The first Smash Bros. was fun, but the second was a truly great title. I brought it with me to college in 2002 and I've been playing it ever since. When I hang out with my friends from home there are always two titles on the playlist: Melee and Double Dash.
