OP, did you ever changed the thermal compound on your PS3? I ask this because I changed it twice on mine and would like to know if it sill can happen even if one has taken precautions of changing it on the 3rd year and then again on the 5th year.

I replaced my thermal compound once about 2 years ago, but the most that will do is add about 3 or 4 months to your systems life, unless you do it every 2 months or so, which I did not.

Unfortunately.

Who said you need to replace thermal compound every two months? I put MX-2 the first time and when I heard it start blowing like a blowdrier again, I replaced it with Artic Silver 5. I changed the spread method to a dot instead of evenly spreading it myself (with a creditcard). It ran pretty well this past summer (90-100 degrees in my room) with no problems.

I hope mine doesn't die. :(  It would be nice to know how many hours these first generation systems were supposed to last.
