41. Half-Life 2 (PS3)

As I hinted yesterday, I came to this game a little late in the Summer of 2011, when I bought and played through The Orange Box. It took me so long because I have a general rule not to jump in to a franchise part way through, and I've only ever briefly played the first game. With this being regarded as a true classic, and with it being on the same disc as Portal (which I really wanted to try), all for £10, I decided to break that rule for once. I was not disappointed, as Half-Life 2 truly lives up to its reputation, and I went from knowing relatively little of the franchise, to eagerly anticipating news of Half-Life 3. There's the usual selection of basic weapons, but the additional one that everyone focuses on is the Gravity Gun, and it's easy to see why, especially when it becomes supercharged towards the end of the game, and you can repel wave after wave of Combine with ease.

My 40th game is one of only three games released since the cut-off point of last years Top 50 to make it into my list this time.
