It's not just about the tablet controller but all of it. Most of their consoles had different control schemes or different controllers. I'm not trying to say that they were badd, not at all but the industry seems to lean in other directions. Most of the time because of their controllers and consoles, third parties don't push games on Ninty games, they just make shoddy ports. Nintendo knows how to make games for their platforms and sales prove that most Nintendo buyers care only for Nintendo games.
I don't think much would change for Ninty fans, but Nintendo games would be in more hands this way. And we wouldn't see Ninty being left out when big third party productions don't head to their consoles or all Ninty fans would have is bad porting resulting in a less interresting title.
