Being 3rd, but this time without huge initial losses, and possibly reaching 2nd place late, could be acceptable. Sony has a narrower range of choices than MS. As for competition with Wii U, being one year late could be a bad start, but being two years late could change the game and avoid direct competition. It would still be just one year later than XB720, so Sony would be playing two different games with Ninty and MS. With Ninty, and in Japan, it could be almost like breaking the generation concept, but if you consider that, due to different audiences in the major regions, they all are already playing almost three different games, the paradigm change could be less dramatic than it looks like.
