Rewiew scores are a bad sentiment to base on.
I owned LBP 1 and 2. While my kids (8 and 9) did like the games the content was crap. They beat the story line in less than a day and simply continued to play in the user created worlds off and on for quite a while.
It took them weeks or longer to beat NSMB (Wii or DS version).
LBP is less about platforming and more about creating your own level. Kinda why people like Legos or Mega Blocks.
2D SMB is perfection when it comes to platforming and its a reason it destroys sales records and longevity over and over again.
OT: Sony's attempt at 2D platforming was LBP and it has been overall successful. Probably more than their karting or this fighting game.
