History has shown how terrible it was during alcohol prohibition in the USA. Organized crime got big, drinking went up, and many people were killed. Not a good thing. You can support the legalization of something without ever wanting to use it. Most of the people that voted to legalize same sex marriage in the 3 state that just passed it are strait.

Yes, just like on the opposite side, christian fundamentalists may be strongly against sexual freedom and still getting involved, every now and then, in the filthiest (for their beliefs) sexual scandals! 
Or ayatollahs being too against sexual freedom, but still devising complicated rules abiding to which sex with children or animals can be considered acceptable according to islamic laws and moral.
