Now I'm curious runqvist... which screen do you use for your gaming?
|
On my computer, living room tv/projector or workroom tv?
|
The one you use with your console, of course.
|
I use all of those sometimes...
27" nec multisync, this one i use rarely with consoles.
47" panasonic viera 3d
Cheap ass Benq 1080p projector
42" old samsung 1080p
Why?

You don't even know the exact models or their input lag and you come here nitpicking about 4-8 ms or paying 15$ to play with 0.1ms of lag, not to mention that I'm pretty sure that none of those screens have less than 1 frame of lag?
You should sell one of those and get one from this list.
How many VG$ are needed to be able to dance the Busted dance? I'll be Vanessa if needed.

You did not ask for exact models, but even if you did I would not probably bother to tell you. I do know the input lag for my newish tv, it is ~15ms without picture processing. That was measured when the tv was calibrated. I did know the input lag of my monitor too, but can't remember it. The lag from internet connection is a bigger issue, because most of other players have that roughly similar input lag and the extra time your command travels to the server is off from your reaction time.
My tv is not yet tested there, it will get there some time. :)

That is 1ms better than my prediction (are you sure it isn't 16ms?), and it was without knowing the model.
Still my point is valid because if you really cared so much about lag you could have bought a TV with half the lag for half the money of that Viera.
And TV lag is way more important because it affects both online and offline gaming, messes with your timing in any game with complex commands like fighting games, and is off your reaction time because the extra time the tv it takes to display the image means that what you're watching have already happened in the game.

It was 15.xxx ms, very close to be rounded to 16ms.
Your point was that I was not even aware of my screens input lag. But hey, of course you can show me a 46-47" screen which has better input lag. Maybe I will consider it to replace my working room tv, which is pretty old. I'm waiting.
You are just plain wrong about that, everyone has input lag. I think most people have at least 16ms input lag, usually even more. Therefore, that extra lag from wifi is always just extra lag compared to people with wired connections. As it also being said many times in this thread, wifi latency fluctuates which could bring you some lag spikes. Those are the worst on multiplayer games.
