I think it'd be more interesting to think about the GameCube/Dolphin along these terms -- - Nintendo agrees to phase down N64 support earlier, letting the N64 become more of a kids/Pokemon console. - GameCube launch is moved ahead a year to November 2000 worldwide, deeming it necessary to not give Sony a full year head start. Hardware price is $299.99, same as Playstation 2, but GCN has better hardware and is easier to program for. - Perfect Dark and Zelda: Majora's Mask are launch titles (moved from the N64) with Conker's Bad Fur Day coming post-launch, joining Dinosaur Planet and Eternal Darkness. - GameCube is redesigned, still Cube design, but less toy-looking. Sleek silver and jet black only. Plays full size DVDs, purchase a $29.99 dongle and DVD video playback is unlocked, taking away a big advantage from Sony. - Nintendo allows a moderated online service for those who buy the broadband adapter. Perfect Dark supports online multiplayer.

Also good ideas, although i debate the level of impact that the GameCube's physical appearance actually had.
