First of all, this doesn't exactly sound like a perfect translation, so some of the meaning may have been lost. But from this translation, Miyamoto doesn't sound so much "puzzled" as genuinely curious to me. The series was declining in sales, so Nintendo probably figured there wasn't much demand for it and shut it down, especially since they have another very popular racing game. Miyamoto probably lost interest in the series, as well, feeling that he had done everything he could with the game. Recently there's a renewed interest in F-Zero, and his question "What do you want that we haven't done before?" strikes me as somewhat sincere. Maybe he is genuinely interested in what fans want from a new F-Zero game. It's almost like he's asking us to convince him to give it the green light, especially with a comment like, "Try to wait by playing Nintendo Land's F-Zero mini-game." ...Wait for what? Again, it could be a subtle mistranslation, or it could be a glimmer of hope that Nintendo may consider reviving the series.
