The PAL standard uses 24hz and 50hz... NTSC standards uses 30hz and 60hz... but there aren't no real difference.

And all new HDTV uses PAL or NTSC automaticaly based in the console or player output.

Thanks for clearing that up, but does that mean I've been playing Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2 at 24fps?!! It plays awfully smooth for 24fps. Some PC players think 60fps is inadequate!

Most monitors are 60Hz though, so anything above 60 FPS would be useless in those cases.

That's exactly why I think PC gaming - unless you have a very high end rig - is often a complete mess. Playing Battlefield Bad company 2 for PC, the framerate can go up to 150 fps. But other times there's horrible slowdown when it struggles to reach 60 fps. For some reason 30 fps looks horrible on PC (i.e. unless the fps counter is not in sync with the in-game action) say compared to PS3. Why so? Modest PC specs aside, should any game really drop from 150 to 15 fps within seconds??

Then there's Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 on PC, which runs at its native 60 fps quite easily and should suit the 60 hz monitor I'm using. But then, unbelievably, tearing becomes apparent here and there - HOW? So I have to use V-sync, triple buffering and DxTory at 58-60 fps, just to be sure the tearing's removed and hopefully with no addition to input lag. It's damn messy. Console gaming has much better convenience and so next gen consoles will always have wider global appeal and better game sales than PC.
