What was actually stopping me buying anything was the fact I only had interest in SNES onwards games and for a few years only had a Gamecube controller to use for them, and the lead on that thing is stupidly short.

Nintendo introduced the WiiWare service which offers original games that use the Wii controllers...
Hydroventure is such a game. You only use the Wiimote to control water in three forms (water, ice, cloud). The game uses mainly tilt controls (so the kind of motion control that is most responsive, therefore nothing to worry about) and requires shaking the controller to turn a cloud into water again or a quick upward motion to make your water puddle or ice block "jump" (so no real issue with motion control here either). Other special abilities are executed through button commands (d-pad, 1, 2).

Looks possibly ok, but I got a load of physics based puzzle games and not played them all, don't really need another for now. Any decent RPGs on WiiWare?

But there are a decent amount of high rated WiiWare games (Nintendo Life reviews).

I got Fluidity (hydroventure) free (temporary Club Nintendo offer) with I believe either 200 or 250 Club Nintendo points which isn't that bad for a $12 game.
