Personally, I would bet against an APU and a GPU being in the same system ...

If you wanted better graphics performance than what could be provided by an APU you would probably be better off using the CPU from the APU and putting the resources (money/wattage) towards a better dedicated GPU than having (essentially) two GPUs. In theory I could see exceptions if you wanted to use the GPU on the CPU as a physics processing unit; but I think you'd get better performance at a lower cost with lower energy consumption by offloading physics to a more powerful GPU and having a simpler CPU.
