That is a pretty nice profit for Microsoft. Wonder how far Nintendo&Sony are lagging.

The market disagrees, as the stock price of msft dragged down after the earnings announcement. Both revenue and earnings dropped by a significant amount.  Jeeze, this thread has everybody hugging msft's nutz, but only readings a positive spin on things.

Aww, did evil MS take a piss on your cereal? Don't worry, I bet they are pretty happy spinning that 5.31 billion any way they please.

I'm not satisfied with that, bc MSFT has a pretty low profit margin, for a tech company that is, and this has been the case for almost 10 years now.  Soon, as in a year or so down the road, the profit margin will be even lower unless MSFT scores an absolute home run with its Win8 strategy.   And, you can't bet on a homerun happening, bc 9 times out of 10, things wont be that much or below expectations or average.

Since youre the expert on MSFT and all, you know that they are heading into the tablet sector as well now, correct?  What do you think will happen when they are basically given 93% of the marketshare with PC's, but have to fight off Apple and google with their tablets, as in the other two will be serious competitors.  The market is moving to tablets but, tablets aren't the blue ocean for MSFT that PC's were. They should have a significantly lower profit margin, bc the serious competition will naturally take something away from them.

You can't just sugarcoat every damn thing, or look only on the bright side and expect to be considered rational.

Your post is extremely speculative and glass-half-empyty sort of thing, which is totally allowed.

But I see little point in downplaying 5 billion profit every 3 months. Compared to Nintendo and Sony, which just posted a net loss of almost $200 million, you really have nothing to say about MS on a video game forum.

Video game forum?  Look, you cant just look at a single peice of the puzzle here.  If MSFT  starts making way more/less $$$$ then its games division will have way more/less $$$$$ to work with.    You have to look at things in totality, with the bigger picture.  And MSFT moving to a worse market will ultimately mean that its games division will have less $$$$$ to work with.

Oh noes......what is the games division share gonna be of $20+ billion in yearly profits from its parent corporation? Rly....?

Your rant is way more suited to Sonys situation.
