Some 3rd parties should. If your games aren't selling over 50k on a dedicated gaming platform, it makes sense to cut the budget down significantly and offer it for a much cheaper price on a mobile platform. But you won't get as many people buying $20 games on mobile platforms as you'll get buying $40 games on dedicated handhelds, so you should stop trying, Square. *Cough*... Yeah. For instance, It wouldn't make any sense at all for big games like Monster Hunter or Mario to move to mobile platforms, at least not exclusively. MonHun won't sell 2 mil at $40 on mobile platforms. Mario certainly wouldn't sell 25 mil at that price. But for the smaller games, the farming simulators, the gem smashers, I say go nuts. Feel free to move to mobile, it'll probably be more profitable for you, and in no way is that 'bad for Nintendo' or something. Or they could have just made those eShop games, or multiplat eShop/mobile. Multiplat is pretty good. |
I agree, that's why it drives me bonkers when analysts predict the doom and gloom of dedicated handheld systems in the face of gaming tablets. Though I do admit that it has an effect on both the 3DS and Vita; especially the Vita!!!
