People seem to forget that there have been reports since the days of the original trilogy that there were THREE sets of movies planned. A 1983 book even quotes Lucas discussing that, though he later denied plans for more than six movies.

I can tell you having lived through the time of the original trilogy that the buzz was that this was a nine movie set (not a six movie set)
Hopefully, these films will work to move the story -- not just reboot the franchise.
