In my opinion, the sad reality is that videogame journalism is better than most forms of journalism out there ...
At the end of the day a person who read the "review" and played the game will develop their own opinion of the game and if they have a different experience they will trust you less as a reviewer; and this keeps reviewers honest to some extent.
In contrast, when the mainstream media simply avoids reporting on news stories because they're damaging to their preferred political party and/or candidate very few people hear about the story through other methods so there is little risk of being discovered for being overwhelmingly biased.
