General - Hurricane Sandy - View Post

I live directly in the path of the hurricane, and it's not so bad here. It's really windy, but that's the worst of it. A lot of rain but not a lot of flooding. We didn't lose power. It's REALLY bad by the coast, but seems pretty alright once you get 30-40 miles inland.

Yes it is bad, but i'm from the UK and this is constantly on the news. WHY? i'm sure there is loads of storms like this, that don't get reported on.

I think it's safe to say that every hurricane that makes landfall is reported on pretty extensively? Hurricanes are also much more rare in the northeast US than in Florida or Louisiana. Sandy and Irene (last year) are the only two I remember affecting us to this extent in the past decade. They've also been saying that this is the first time on record that a hurricane has collided perpendicularly with the NE coast, and the first time since the late 1800s that the NYSE has closed for two days due to weather conditions. Basically, it's a pretty big deal all around, and there are not "loads of storms like this," at least in this area.
