Thanks for these links. I haven't read this person before, but I certainly will going forward.
As far as this story goes, it makes me pretty sick to my stomach. I consider myself a journalist -- I no longer work in journalism, but I've worked for several local newspapers and magazines in my home state of Connecticut -- and the behavior on display here is mind-boggling. I've written on this site a dozen times that the single most impactful thing holding back video games from becoming what they deserve to be acknowledged as -- a serious form of entertainment media -- is the lack of a professional corps of video game critics. Osed125 said it best when he compared video game critics unfavorably to movie and music critics. Those critics have a professional legacy as a foundation to their writing.
Video game critics need to grow up. And when they do, maybe their readers -- the rabid, reactionary fans who are tormenting this young woman who made some very big mistakes -- will start growing up too.
