Dude, thats reality, not propoganda...It shows the xbox has had the weaker sales of all the 3 consoles.  Unless you want to show a lack of understanding ecomoics. 

But luckily we go by lifetime sales.

Says who? Only people who fail to understand economics would do such a thing. Plus either way with current sales, the PS3 will still overtake the xbox sales, even with the xbox having the lead. So your determination to skew the results are going to end up fruitless either way. 

Says corporate fiscal reports of lifetime shipments and vgchartz main page. Total sold. You logic cant say "PS3 sold more consoles then Xbox 360". It would have to say "PS3 sold more consoles then Xbox 360....in the same timeframe". Thats just a nice way of saying "you came late to the party but its okay". 

It will happen eventually, but the idea is that by the time it does happen, all 3 next gen consoles will be out and it would essentially be a hollow victory.

Your confirming to me that many Sony fans would love to regress to their very genetics of praising sales. You have worshipped sales for 2 generations so its my theory your just ITCHING to play that card again. But for now, you get your fix referring to "comparative timeline sales". :P

Lifetime shipments work though by how long the item has been on the market. Logic fail. VGChartz home page isn't any sort of authority either. 

The PS3 has had a better rate of sales when launch date is adjusted, fact. It shows the PS3 is a more popular console as it has sold better, albeit having a release a year later. 

Wow. How much are you in denial? "Oh let's pretend we don't need to adjust start dates". "Oh it'd be a hollow victory". Or you mean you can't stand the notion of seeing the xbox sales be beaten by the "evil" competition. Back to reality plz and while you're at it, learn a bit about business as you obviously don't know anything about it but are making wild, and incorrect, presumtions about how sales are monitored.
