This is a rip off. I'm sorry but it's true. $450+ for an Xbox 360 is ridiculous.
Instead of decreasing the price, Microsoft is increasing it.

I pray to god that people are smart enough to do simple math.

All you need to do is provide games for your console and people will buy it. If you are concerned about the install base of your console, decrease the price! This is how this works. Don't fool people into thinking your console is cheaper than the others and trick them into paying monthly fees.

/rant

250GB Xbox 360 w/Kinect & 2 Years of Xbox LIVE Service =  $519
250GB Xbox 360 w/Kinect & 2 Years of Xbox LIVE Service on plan = $150 + $360 = $510

so what happens on the 3rd year?

Anyone who comes up with a lesser price on a plan opposed to the regular price is ignorant. Interest must be added on principle. Everyone knows Microsoft has issues with letting go of peoples credit card numbers, especially ones they cant surprise uauto renew, so it will be interesting how this plays out.

This has nothing to do with a credit card.  No credit card is even used.

When you purchase a console on a payment plan, you pay for your purchase.  Then you're billed (by a statement) for your Xbox LIVE service.  Your social security number is used, and your failure to pay will impact your credit rating, but it does not factor into whether or not you get to make a purchase.  It also won't help build your credit.  Only your failure to pay will negatively impact your credit rating.

Any subscriptions you purchase outside of the plan won't even apply until the 24 months have completed.

So...no, you're 1000% wrong.
