No I didn't forget, there was a follow on post. Saying the US grew rich in the 19th century is vague, kind of like saying the Chinese economy got big during the 20th century. Post civil war is when the US economy really took off. Also lets not forget, as bad as the Civil War was it did help initiate the heavy industrialisation of the Union controlled parts.

It made the US become one, even though the south didn't really want that. And as the USA was so big, it could expand on itself, it didn't need europe so much. As, it connected most parts of America by rail which was a massive deal in a world before the invention of cars, and expoilt it's resources like gold and oil
