You would be VERY suprised to look at the number of American soldiers in French trenches in WWI around that time.

I dunno between the M6, M9 and OKC-3S we probably have a few bayonets for every soldier in service.  They're generally standard issue and I think there is some regulation where they need backups of everything for every soldier or something crazy like that.
