This article has it wrong, the consumers dictate the next generation, not the console manufacturers.
Look at hardware sales, consumers grow tired of the consoles after so many years, and the consoles effectively meet their "watershed".
Console sales are almost counter-cyclical to the PC gaming industry, and the PC has been having some great years. It's time for a new console generation.
