I also don't see the point of a small tablet other than a lower price point making it an appealing gift for a child. If you're using a tablet for word documentation, photos, films, games, drawing, etc you'd want a larger surface area. I guess Apple liked the success of the Nexus and wanted to replicate it. Money is money no matter how you look at it as a corporation, even if it's going against Steve Job's views.
