What makes me laugh is I always hear about jRPG's and how they have a story formula and how it's boring. Yet the same reviewer might love a Halo or Resistance and make no mention of it's formula despite it also being completly formulaic.
Yeah we play the games for different reasons but story is a constant, and should always be taken note of.
I can sum up nearly any FPS in a few short scentences.
The world is ending/Company leaked a virus/aliens/monsters attacking/terrorists/war started save the world/universe/city/building from the threat you are a scientist/commando/random tough guy. Kill the aliens/zombies/mutants/terorists/nazis before they can destroy everything!
How is that not a formula and how is it not worse than the jRPG's? at least they tend to have decent filler into the formula..
