My question to that is this: Why study something you don't enjoy? Shouldn't higher education be about a subject you actually like studying? Statistics have proven a BS/BA degree earners have more income over a lifetime than just HS diplomas. Trade schools for things like automotive repair should be considered, too. I think getting a job anyway is more about connections. Sure, your degree may help (and may be a requirement for some entry level jobs), but you need to be persistent and continually educate yourself in order to appear relevant on a resume.... among other things. Agreed. I've been writing software since I was 6. I always knew it was what I wanted to do. I'm very blessed that my job is my hobby and I have a crapload of fun (usually) doing it.
Do what makes you happy because you only get one life to live. It's just that if what makes you happy isn't going to bring in lots of money then you may need to make some compromises.
