If we wanted to compare OS sales, it would be Mac OS X and derivative unit sales versus Windows 8 and derivative unit sales... which actually could be an interesting contest over the next year. Could make a good side bet. I've seen the occaisonal public statement about Win 7, but does MS normally report OS unit sales in financials? You're on Selnor. iPad Mini versus Surface unit sales next October. If we can't find reasonably reliable numbers because Surface tablets are being grouped in with all Windows-based tablets and/or iPad Minis are being grouped in with all iPads, we'll call it a draw. |
Windows 7 is not only the fastest selling version of windows ever destroying Windows XP by hitting 500 million 4 months faster, but has now over 1 billion official licenses. Thats now over 1/7th of the estimated world population. Thats 93% of the TOTAL OS market which includes all IOS and Android. Just so you know.
Windows 8 even if it sells the worst is gonna sell 600 million copies. But its likely to sell more or the same as now Microsoft enter the tablet market officially, which cater to a whole new market that will be able to link every single app with their WP8 or Xbox without extra cost. Also it is more than what the current tablet market offers at the same price. Offering full Microsoft Office and the ability to connect any device.
Theres a reason wy Windows 8 tablets are impressing the media because effectively it now makes Ipad so overpriced as it kills Ipad in functionality and usage.
