Yep, I was one of those people. Still think it was possible if Wii Music had been another Wii Sports/Wii Fit 40m+ type hit instead of the bastard child of the lot. As far as having the casual market's attention, Wii never really recovered from that. WSR was good and NSMBW sold fantastically but beyond those Nintendo took their eyes off the casual market (they did continue to put out weaker efforts like Wii Party/Wii Play Motion) and focused on 2D platformers instead of motion based virtual family play which made Wii a success in the first place. Ubisoft grabbed what was left of this market with Just Dance but it was too little too late to revive the Wii's fortunes. Also Kinect (and to a much lesser extent Move) cut into Wii's hype/attention in a major way. Kinect hasn't managed to maintain people's attention and now the market has shifted to iPads.
RE: PS2 - I would say no game system in the future can touch it now unless we include the iPad as a gaming system or Android. Certainly the next gen from Sony/MS/Nintendo will (most likely) fail to reach the highs the even this gen let alone the PS2's. Home gaming consoles are becoming a niche market - at least, in their current form.
